Yesteryear Collection

This extremely good looking car with its flared mudwings and convex tail, in which it carried little more than a spare wheel, is a particular favourite amongst Riley enthusiasts. The car with its 6 cylinder 1500 c.c. engine, which Riley introduced in 1933, could reach a genuine 85 m.p.h. plus and handled beautifully into the bargain.

The Riley MPH is a British sports car built in Coventry in 1934 and 1935. A total of 15 of these sports cars were built. Later, several replicas were built. There are still 14 original Riley MPH known.

Matchbox first produced the popular (Y3-3) 1934 Riley MPH in 1974 and it was one of the first new Yesteryears in the relaunched range.

Variations/Rarities: The first colour scheme was metallic purple.
It was briefly recoloured to ruby red, then to dark red and then to a lighter red with all versions having chromed 12 or 24 spoke wheels apart from the final lighter red version having 12 spoked red plastic wheels.
It was recoloured yet again to mid blue with a decal racing number which can be either a 3, a 6 or a 9. The number 3 is hard to find and the number 9 is no more than an upside down 6 (a negative variation)!
When the 'red' Riley was replaced by the blue, extra decoration in the form of a door transfer was added. There are issues where the blue body doesn't match the blue colour of the wings and baseplate.

Most of them are very common and fetch no premium, however if you have a dark purple or ruby one with black seats and grille insert you have a rare and expensive one.
Also look out for red 12 spoke wheels.

This model was also released as a silver-plated model with a red painted chassis in the Giftware series.
